  • Finally!!! A proper field hoe.

Finally found, purchased, and received (this morning) a nice field hoe.

Due to lack of time and perhaps motivation the weeds get out of control from time-to-time. I've needed a larger hoe to help me with the problem. Now I have one.

And ... as I mentioned in another thread I now have more time on weekdays to do what I want (or what SWMBO wants me to do ) as for keeping up with chores - about 3 additional hours a day.

I tried out the new hoe during my lunch break and it's a keeper.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is a field hoe and how does it differ from a Dutch hoe, draw hoe, digging hoe, onion hoe, grub hoe - photo please

Glad you found a tool you like DWS. From a quick image search it seems a field hoe is a short-bladed version of what we call a trenching hoe. A tool that's tough enough for the job. Be nice to see a photo of it.

It is heavier than a garden hoe for heavier work. It has a 60" ash handle. It's made for field work and is also called a cotton hoe. It can cut well below the surface. It weighs 4 1/2 pounds.

That's a nice looking bit of kit, I recently picked up the head of a WW1 entrenching tool to which I've fitted a long handle

Last year I treated myself to one of these (but from a long river site)
Harbour Housewares Full Size Azada / Digging Hoe - Rinkit.com
I think mine was a silverline brand. Anyway it has a number of uses like ridging spuds and digging hard ground or making planting trenches neatly or hoeing big rubbish that got away.
I'm not sure I'd want to sling it around for an 8 hour shift, but it has proven very useful.

You should look at some of the Japanese gardening implements - try explaining to the police that you’re carrying a Hori Hori or Nejiri Gama because you're of to tackle some dandelions.
