  • onions are huge but not showing signs of bending

Some of these are now getting rather large. The leaves on the majority are till upright. What do I do? Leaves them, bend the leaves or what?

If you bend them, you run the risk of causing bruising which in turn encourages neck rot. If the onions are big enough for you, take a fork and go along the row levering back gently which will break the roots and encourage the onions to ripen off.

It seems like a good year for onions my reds are of a good size and the leaves are still standing. I have started to take the odd one at SWMBOs request the rest will stay there till the tops fall over.

Mine are huge this year. The tops have just started to bend over. My biggest problem is going to be where I put them to dry. I have rather a lot this year, and no space to dry them. Would a net suspended from the eaves of the potting shed work. The shed is attached to the greenhouse so has the potential to get quite warm, and as it has a window and I leave the connecting door open into the greenhouse for ventilation it's not very dark.
