  • Cheap garden arches

    Morning!

Am going to put up a couple of arches over paths in the lottie for growing pretty stuff (and possibly beans!) up. Has anyone tried the really cheap ones from Wilkos? They seem like such a bargain but don't want to buy it if it's going to fall apart after 2 years! Was not going to challenge them too much with something super heavy like squashes!

    Ta!

I had a couple a few years ago. Very flimsy and one fell apart under the weight if beans in the second year. Second one lasted longer as it was in the polytunnel but still not very good. I spent more and got one that is much stronger at the sectional connections, well worth it.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks...as I'd suspected, so probably not good as I want them to be reasonably permanent! Can I ask what make you got in the end?

I've a couple of them - bottom section rusted through and snapped off after 1 year. I've tide those plastic coated canes to the legs in order to keep them up but this is only a temporary measure. A couple of years ago I took 2 arches and tied 1m fencing mesh fole between them which was sturdier and theyre still up (don't have that garden now though)

I've also got a more expensive arch gate at the front of the plot which has been up just as long and looks like it will last for a while
