    On the plus side....

    There have been lots of problems this year with strange weather and a plethora of diseases, pests and vermin.

    However, as a work with a bunch of dour folk I always try to focus on the plus side so here goes...

    The celeriac are looking enormous, never got one to this stage so fingers crossed
    Bumper harvest of Broadies
    Cucumbers romping away in their new auto-watering system
    Chilli that survived the winter is on its second crop

    So come on, join in, what's going right?!?!

      And I haven't put the fork through my toe yet!

      But on a serious note, the grapevines, only two, one red one white, now on year 4 are going "Great Gun's" So here's hoping!

        Runner beans - yum yum. Hubby is getting sick of but I love them.

        Marrows are growing like mad.

        Managed to stop slugs from eating my lettuce by growing in a raised planter with leg ends stuck in tins of water

        Tomatoes are finally ripening

        Onions will be harvested soon.

        It's getting cooler YAY!

        LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

          Most of my stuff outside and in the polytunnel has been a disaster BUT......they said it couldn't be done in Northumberland..... my melons in the greenhouse are growing like crazy I even found a little-fingernail-sized watermelon yesterday so I'll be pampering those plants even more

            Really pleased with the beans, tomatoes and courgettes.

            Raspberries and strawberries have been fantastic.

            Loads of apples on the trees - more than any year I can remember!

            Its looking like a good year for me

              Harvested my heirloom brandywine tomato. ...the only ones I had left after the b word destroyed all my others and got to say I loved them.

                Whilst I have had a lot of disasters there isn't anything that has been completely wiped (fingers crossed)
                I don't have any digging left.
                Most of the veg patch is planted up.
                I have decent carrots for the first time in years.
                I actually have potential parsnips this year (last years was a disaster and I pampered them everyway possible)
                I have aubs., I have aubs., oh and I have aubs
                I have managed vases of cut flowers.
                Brassicas, oh my brassicas - years of naff things but they are big (for me) and green and healthy (fingers crossed again) they carry on in the right direction.
                My preserve cupboard is starting to fill. So far infused booze, elderflower champagne, jellies, butters and syrups.
                My soft fruit plants are settling in well with lots of new stronger growth so already more promising for next year and the garden tasters this year were lovely
                Rhubarb has been really good. One plant only went in last year but has produced soooo much
                Peaches and nectarines (fruited in the first year of me having them)

                  Oh how could I forget my trusty raspberries which grow so rampantly behind the greenhouse? They've just started to ripen and are delicious

                  My flowers are all doing pretty well too and the plot is a-hum with happy bees They especially LOVE the borage.....tho' I've learnt in this first year of growing it to support it next year as it's flopping over all over the shop!

                      Rhubarb. My timperly early is, frankly amazing. Last year I could crop it from March through to Sept. This year I took a little mid Feb!
                      Gooseberries great - next door plot waited an extra week and the blackbirds had his...
                      pears and apples are looking promising. Cider I up (possibly)

                            Calabrese and lettuce a disaster this year no idea why.

                            Looks like a good year for runners, onions, cauliflower, toms now doing well, and the Kelvedon Wonder have been just that, best year for a long time for peas.

                              Agree with Potty - superb year for peas.

                              Some HUGE onions at my friend's - must be the rotted horse manure I grew them in.

                              Cucumbers going berserk. These are Cucino, the "little" ones, but the one I brought home tonight was 7 inches long and there is a bigger one still on the plant.

                              Bumper crop of white currants from my little double cordon.

                              Courgettes just starting to produce more than I can sensibly deal with (planted too many again!)
