    Why no tomatoes

    This is my 3rd year of trying to grow tomatoes in my greenhouse with no success.
    Basically they grow to around 5ft high in no time but stems are pencil thin and hardly any flowers, i end up with lots of green foliage but no toms.
    Greenhouse is in the sun from dinnertime till late afternoon..is that the problem NOT ENOUGH SUN???????. think i'm watering enough every other day feeding when i get flowers..when i get them.

      My greenhouse only gets Morning sun, and I get strong, fruitful tom plants, so don't think it is that.
      Are you growing them in border soil or in pots? How is the greenhouse ventilated?

      Need more info........

        Been told something similar but was told they dont like it to hot so thought all day sun was bad for them.

            What size pots and what compost in them? What have you been feeding them with? They may be getting too much nitrogen, causing lots of green growth, and few flowers ...

              When did you start them? What variety are you growing? are you taking the "arm pits" out? How many have you got in your greenhouse and how close are they positioned?

              It would be easier if you took a photo, it tells a thousand words.

                There are a hundred and one reasons why you might not be being successful. If they're growing to five foot quickly (mine are only just about at that height now) then you could be over-fertilising them. If the stems are "pencil thin" then it sounds as though the plants aren't treated properly when seedlings (if they're weedy at the start, they won't ever get going properly).

                If you're growing them in the beds of your greenhouse, the soil could be poor and I would suggest you try growing them in growbag compost either in a growbag or in a large pot or dig a big hole and fill that up.

                If they're too close together that certainly won't help.

                I grow my tomatoes in a polytunnel that gets sun from about 11:00 am until about 16:00 and I know that the allotmenteers who have their polytunnels in full sun all day get a better crop than I do but I wouldn't expect you to get none at all.

                    So back to the question of how big is the pot and what soil/compost?
