  • Is it illegal to plants mines on your allotment ???

The thief is back !!! I`ve had my two plots for 3 years and up till now have had no trouble, then Mr tealeaf arrives in the early hours to lay claim to some of my tools and 5 other allotmenteers tools as well.... He was being selective as to what he could carry as he had moved aside a near brand new petrol hedge strimmer to get at my Wolf rake and hoe with handle, around £80 worth! ok, not the end of the world, informed plod and local will come round to mark everthing, but, I want to put down a few piles of semtex for Mr tealeaf if he should return. I thought of putting up a sign saying " I know where I planted the mines...do you?"

A nice 'drainage ditch' surrounded by long grass?
Old tools with some sort of anti vandal paint on the handle?

Or just go old school....a bucket of comfrey tea poised above the door jam

          Oh no, that's dreadful

Sadly it seems it's becoming far too common.

Alas, as you already know, land mines or anything which may cause injury and is intentionally placed is, against the law.

Can't blame you thinking about it though

          * keep answers within the law please folks

We have cctv on our allotment although we've still had some break ins even with it but mainly drunk kids causing a mess rather than the wholesale smash and grab that used to happen (someone once stole a whole shed). Some of the smarter kits will even notify you through phone apps if it spots someone out of "normal" hours. You'd need a wifi connection for that though.

If I ever get round to building a shed I've pondered going for some false floor/ceiling/walls and leave a token trowel and tin of biscuits out for them to pinch.

If you can get a trail camera, there are loads of them if you Google , no need for wifi it is turned on and off by movement, and records everything, simply just give a copy of the recording to the police they have night vision as well so no problem

When I had my shed broke into, rightly or wrongly I put a trip wire in the doorway.

                        So it did it's job

Look on ebay using "Mini Hidden Spy Camera USB HD Video Recorder Motion Detection DVR Cam Camcorder" just under a £5 but you need a micro 32Mbyte SD Card. I've bought one to give it a go.

My father in law had a camouflaged camera in some woodland to protect bird of prey that was nesting there... within a week it had been smashed to bits. What was more amazing was that it was about 20ft up a tree pointed towards the main pathway into the area the nest was...

Methinks a new political party is in order The "Thieves and burglars deserve all they get" party. It would get my vote. Sick of being a victim.

If my husband had his way our allotment would be a graveyard of dead thieves..................at least they would feed the plants.

I've got a sign for my shed that says Trespassers Will Be Composted, and a tee shirt that says My Allotment where I hide the bodies
