  • Bees and dog pee.

    Hi all.

Does anyone know why bees would drink dog pee? I'm asking for someone who has seen them in her garden doing this and thought it odd.

    Thanks.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Have the dog checked for diabetes.

Diabetics exude a substance which bees believe to be honey. An unfortunate aspect of this is that large numbers of bees congregate around the groin area of diabetic beekeepers if they come within a few feet of the hive and can become quite agitated...occasionally even aggressive.

I would have that dog checked out pretty quickly.
He can't tell his owner of his symptoms, the first indication will likely be quite a serious episode of illness unless, of course, a very kind bee gives you a warning

Kitty I really hope its just coincidence and that your friends dog is fine - however if unfortunately he is not, how amazing is it that a bee (and muddled) have found out for your friend before anything too serious happens!!

          Poor doggy

Bees also like water polluted by cow or horse dung. The theory is they like the salts present...

Someone else on the group did mention it could be the salt and minerals the bees were after but sugar seems to be the general agreement. I hope their dog is ok!

Has the dog recently lost weight, constantly thirsty, looking for food? If so It may be worth a trip to the vet. It's only an injection/blood test to find out.
