Bagging up compost?

    Bagging up compost?

    1 of my compost bins is 3/4 full of compost which is looking nearly done.

    The other bin is about half full with fresher material.

    I was just wondering if you can bag up the nearly composted stuff into old compost bags and will it continue to compost as it would in the bin. This then freeing up the first bin to start filling again?

    I do it all the time. Just make a few holes in the bottom of the bags and store them somewhere where the rain won't get in or you will end up with very wet compost.

      That's good to know.

      They would be stored outside and i suppose i would have to put some plastic sheeting over them to keep the rain off though.

          As said you can, but why not spread it? There's still plenty of time to make more compost so use it as a mulch.

            I was actually planning on doing that in the autumn when most of my crops are out of the garden.

            Spreading it now would be almost impossible and probably result in me wrecking veg plants.
