    How do you slug hunt?

    I will blame Muddled for this idea after I read that she runs around with a head torch, chop sticks and a bucket.........

    I just pick them up and say Yuk each time. They then either go as a food donation to next door but one's hedgehog family or die unhappily in a tub of beer - hic!

    I did try wearing my gloves but I ended up with sticky slugs on each finger re-enacting a mexican wave as I tried (in vain) to flap them off.

    So now it's just fingers and Yuk noises

    I pick them up with my gloves on and feed them to one of the plot holders chickens. He don't mind us feeding them slugs.

        Great picture there of you, Lumpy, flapping your hands about. Trouble is, when (if) they do eventually flick off, you've got to pick them up again...

        Anyway, me, I go out with a torch, trepidation and some sturdy boots.

          I wondered the same thing... great thread lumpy. I picked off 30 last night - with my fingers (I could cope with that because they were little ones) but they are soooooo slimy and my fingers still felt slimy after multiple hand washing. I'm contemplating sacrificing a spoon to pick them up and lob them with.

          on an aside... I tried to throw them over the fence but some of them stuck and went splat into the fence instead.

            Pick the up wit ha disposable plastic glove and feed them to the crooks. If you get th slime on your hands vinegar removes it.

              Actually, nowadays in daylight I'm braver and can pick up small ones with a leaf, gloves, hand trowel etc.
              If I'm really annoyed and catch them on a precious brassica leaf I might even spear them with a hand fork

              But at night...in the dark I start feeling squeamish before I've even seen one and even leaves brushing against my arm feel slimey
              So then its the full monty...head torch, chopsticks and a bucket of salty water

                I thought slugs were like snails and had a 'homing' instinct so if you don't lob them far enough they keep coming back like little slimey yo yo's.

                    I was, inspired by Knight of Albion, kinder to snails for a while and put them into my compost dalek where they could do their worst contained by a tight fitting lid...

                    Until I realised that their worst was to breed like billy-oh and lay ten squillion eggs that I was happily spreading on my beds

                    So with heavy heart I send them to their maker as well.

                      Pick them up!!!
                      Secateurs cut them in half and leave the remains for the birds.

                        Never!!! The only problem is that the chooks can't cope with the HUGE edible snails.

                          I get the kids to go hunting for them with a bucket and a trowel each. Reward is a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles on for them both afterwards.
                          I go hunting with a bucket and a pair of gloves and a bucket. Chuck them on next doors rubble area for the birds to eat.

                            My mum had a large organic veg garden, she used to get up at the crack of dawn armed with her antique silver sugar tongs and a bucket of salt water...you can imagine the rest!!

                            I don't take after my mum in that respect, I collect them in a bucket and put them in the next door field, but I've a horrible feeling they all come slithering back as fast as possible!
