    Obtrusive Ads today!

    Don't know whats happened since I was on an hour ago, but suddenly I am swamped with flashing adverts!

    Not sure if adblock plus is down or whether GYO did this but whatever, annoying ads are counter productive.
    I will not buy from a flashing advert on principle and now I cannot enjoy the forum.

    So, to whom it may concern (which is the equivalent of calling my daughter by her full name....all mums know how cross I am) To whom it may concern, every page takes several minutes to load, keeps freezing...and when it is loaded the page is migraine inducing with flashing images in my peripheral vision.

    Much as I love it here, I'll be back when the ads are gone.

      I've got a couple of blockers in place so haven't seen a change - I whitelist a few of the non-flashing / in your face ads here as I think that's only fair but I think the site would benefit from a change to the ad network used - though what do I know..

        It's a topic that has been rumbling on for about a year now. I'm just grateful for Adblockplus otherwise I would not be here.

          I've just had all the ad's when I logged on but then they disappeared.

            At the bottom of the page you will see a small drop down menu.

            If you change "--GYOV4" to "--GYOV4-dev2" you will probably find that most of the ads disappear

                  My last comment on this is thusly:
                  I've recommended this site to 4 people - 2 of whom are 'computer literate' and 2 of whom really aren't. The t=2 who are computer literate decided that whilst they could enable adblockers "why bother" as there are other less 'in our face' sites. The two that aren't so great at the ad-blocking etc went 'meh - that site looks terrible' - couldn't convince them otherwise.
                  I'd say that ads are a necessity to keep 'free sites' like this - but site owners really need to consider what an acceptable ad is for their users... I'm no expert but it seems to me that this site is using an ad-network that is not tuned to the clientèle here. Of course I haven't got access to googleanalytics for this site so maybe loads of folk are buying sit-on-mowers for £2500 from some blinky link on the sidebar.

                    We fully understand the concerns raised and can do no more than make admin aware. As Mods we have no control over advertising and also share your frustrations.

                    Might i suggest rather than just air your frustrations in the open forum why not PM me your concerns and I can then ensure they are passed on to the correct people.

                              This is a bit weird. About 5 days back I stopped getting the pop-up about the magazine subscription at the top, the notification about cookies and the one at the bottom about something or other.

                              Basically the more in your face ones all went.

                              The ones at the egde remained but I basically do not register them to any great extent - after however long they have been there I couldn't tell you what they actually advertise. So they are not making a great impact.

                              Now someone has apparently adverts all over the place, I have less and have done nothing to reduce them. As said all a bit weird.
