Hi all, I'm down at the plot currently (south Cheshire) and one of my potato plants, Cara main crop variety is doing this, tbh the leaves have looked a bit different for a while but today this plant looks like this. What is it please?

Here's one of the base of the plant -
Leaves are rolling upwards a bit in a small areas on new growth,maybe it's nutrients or bugs feeding,have you fed them with anything at all? Is water getting to all the tubers,are some leaves suffering because of lack of water? I don't know but it's not blight what a relief!

Keep an eye on the stems near the soil....mine looked like that last year and then Blackleg showed on the stems. If that appears dig any spuds underneath up quick (and eat) before it spreads along the row.Comment

Thank you for your speedy replies. I removed the plant entirely and there was no sign of any damage down the stem (yet) although along the normal looking white roots were only three pea sized potatoes. I've looked about the web and the closest I've come is blackleg too which I understand can affect the tubers even before they have chitted. The RHS Wisley is running a solanum virus research project until later on this year and have asked for samples of leaves for investigation so I've sent some to them. It will be interesting to find out what they say. Will update when I find anything out.

They have only had one feed with a Miracle Gro vegetable feed. That particular plant is right in the middle of 18 other plants and nothing else is affected. I would suspect Blackleg too, especially if they were bought in seed potatoes. It seems quite random when it attacks, keep an eye on the rest as sometimes a few are 'pre-infected'. Always seems to hit mine when they are looking their best and not long before Late Blight hits!Comment
