  • Because VC made me buy a mini patio apple tree........

    .....I've just realised I now need to buy another one!

    The mini apple tree was left in my basket from a previous visit to the T&M site and when VC posted the tomato offer which of course I just had to buy , I ended up buying the tree too.

    If VC hadn't have made me buy the toms then I would have bought the apple tree either, so it's your fault VC.

    Anyway, the tree has been dispatched and I see that it is only partly self fertile and it's advised to grow it beside another variety.

    So, anyone seen anything suitably dwarf/mini /patio like that's cheap?

    Also, why does it have to be another variety? Why can't I just get another of the T&M free (pay p&P) jobs and have two the same?

          We had a single apple tree in outer back garden for years that produced well. Then suddenly it became rubbish, tree in good nick and the small number of fruits it did produce were still lovely but very few. Discovered a neighbour had cut down their tree which must have been the pollination source. Bought a patio tree companion a couple of years ago from Blackmoors and its producing properly again . Therefore you might be OK without another one if there's something nearby. I'd give it a couple of years unless you really want another one.

          Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

          Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              Like Alison says - is there another apple nearby to pollinate it?

                  VC = "very convincing" perhaps?

                  You can resist it though if you try really hard....I haven't bought one of her recommendations since the fuchsia berries and that must be a least a month ago! (Just hope she doesn't see this as a bl@@dy challenge)

                  Edit: GG, if you're in a town or city, there will probably be apple trees around somewhere, it doesn't have to be next door as pollinators can cover quite an area.

                    Don't be embarrassed, Spam, I haven't bought anything VC's recommended since the fuchsia berries either. I'm sure she's on commission (I wish)
