  • Morello cherry yellowing leaves

    Hi,

I have a morello cherry tree in a container, 2 or 3 years old, this is my first tree and very proud of it, it is the first year it has fruited, it has started bearing fruit but since then some of the leaves have been turning yellow and falling off as well as the blossom buds which didn't fertilise, can anyone till be if this is normal because it is putting strength into the growing fruit or whether I ought to be concerned about anything.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks

Hello Bronnie, and welcome to the Vine. I'm afraid I can't help you with your tree but I wanted to say hello. Mine has a similar problem and I haven't managed to make it better. To be fair, haven't tried all that hard. I'm sure someone knowledgeable will be along soon.

Is it well watered? What sort of feeding regime do you follow? If it's been in the same pot for a few years and not fed, it will be really hungry.

Mine is in similar conditions. It gets grumpy if I skimp on the water (in this hot weather especially) and I plan on feeding it with something to help the fruit. I read tomato feed was good somewhere.

My citrus trees had a lot of leaves that were going yellow and then falling off. I dissolved chelated iron in water and sprayed the leaves and watered the trees with the solution. I repeated this procedure several times and within a few weeks the trees were back to normal. The trees were suffering from chlorosis, in other words, they were anaemic.

            Thank You

Thank you everyone for your comments, it's good to know others are having the same problem, maybe I should be watering it more often, I have started feeding it with tomato food, is this ok or should I be using something else?, I'm rather passionate ,over this tree as I bought it in memory of my Mum and would be devastated if I lost it.
