  • Onion problem

Never had a problem with onion, these were planted in the autumn and look in a bit of a state, something is eating them, can't see anything, bulb is bulking up ok. Any ideas please.

As per your rant I would suspect slugs and snails.

Really, I never even thought, they would munch on onions, better get back up there and chuck a few pellets down.

Have a look inside the leaf. I suspect you may well find a dark brown caterpillar

I suppose it might be allium leaf miner or leek moth, but I'm betting it's slugs. They attacked mine and the damage looks much the same.

You were right, slugs! Horrible on the inside of the hollow, stem, uck! And also snails, lurking about on the ground. The pests!

Others on the allotments have the same problem, hopefully the bulbs will be ok.
