  • Main crop sarpo Mira spuds are producing flowers already ? Is that normal

I planted my sarpo Mira in tubs on 9th April . There growing well with plenty of lush green top growth. But there are flower buds coming ? Is that normal

Some of the Sarpo range produce quite a decent show of flowers but obviously the fruit is poisonous. I found Mira were at their best at about 22 weeks, in our soil they tended to carry on growing and become hard with diminished flavour if left too long.

Plenty of spuds of various varieties with flowers on my allotment site.

My Desiree are in full bloom at the moment. Nothing to worry about, it just shows the plants have reached the point where they are starting to form flowers and potatoes. The general guidance is that you can start harvesting once the plants have flowered, but I leave my main crops longer than this for bigger potatoes.
