  • Courgettes ready to go out?

I have some courgette plants which I've been slowly hardening off for the last 7-8 days and there looking pretty healthy.

I'm wondering if it would be safe to leave them out overnight at this point? They've been out from about 7am until 11pm and the forecasts are looking at lows of around 9-11 degrees c.

Has anyone else in the Leeds/Wakefield/Dewsbury/Huddersfield area bitten the bullet and put their courgettes out?

I'm a little bit further south in Staffordhsire but mine are going out tomorrow. They've been hardened off and now need to stick up for themselves!

Not yet but only because they aren't quite big and strong enough yet

I'm planting two out tomorrow but I do have back ups.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've planted one out today under a plastic cloche. Bear in mind that the forecast is for it to be quite windy for the next couple of days and plants like courgettes with big leaves don't much like the wind. If you can possibly protect them with something (my cloche is only thin plastic) it would be better than putting them outside.

Courgette, patty pan, squash and pumpkin went into their bed yesterday after about a week outside. I feel it's really late but last year mine got hammered by cold after an early May planting. I was determined that they were going to be big and healthy even if I had to grow them in buckets in the poly until late June. they look quite small in the pic but they are big and covered in flowers (probably all male! but it's a start).
