  • My cucumber plants are turning white and dying :-(

Hi, I'm a first time grower this year and have a few vegetables on the go.

Peppers, Chilli, Tomatoes, Strawberries and Cucumber.

My concerns are for my cucumbers and tomatoes really... I used propergating equipment to start them off... but since taking off the lids (hardening?) the leaves have just turned white, curled and died. :-/ I had 9 cucumber plants and now only have 1! :-/

Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? :-/ Open to any advice...as very new to this. :-)

Hi and welcome to the vine, well done for starting to grow

Could you perhaps post a picture?

Hard to tell without a picture, are the leaves completely white or just spotty? If the spots then could be looking at a disease such as powdery mildew. If its happened on all the plants I'm leaning more towards a disease or cold damage but can't be sure without picture.

Where are the plants now? You say you used propagating equipment, can you say exactly the process you went through?

White cucumber leaves & depending if theyre in direct sun when hardening off sounds like sun damage? It happens to tomatoes in direct sun too,the leaves are very tender when they're young & not used to the elements.

Without a picture my first instinct from the description would be sun damage too. Are they on a sunny windowsill maybe? The sun coming through the glass can be quite brutal!

              Hello! Welcome to you Newgrower2016!

As they said above - show us your piccies - helps to 'see' what you're describing ....

It was a good job you sowed so many cucumber seeds NG2016, I usually find one plant for me (only I eat them in our household....!) is more than enough .....

Don't let this bit of a set-back put you off - it's always a learning curve. Also what works well one year doesn't necessarily mean it'll work the same next season .......
