  • Runner Bean Issue....Maybe

Ok so when I was getting the beds ready for where my beans were I fell ill and left instructions with my other half to dig in some compost and rake it all over till the soil was all nice and crumbly (he is clueless about gardening). A week or so ago I planted out my beans and then found out after the fact that he didn't in fact dig anything into the soil
My question is can I apply a side dressing of fertiliser to them to give them the boost they should of had? To me they look a little 'sulky' but I may just be scrutinising them too much lol

You are too late to dig anything in but a sprinkling of fertiliser won't do them any harm. You can later add mulch around the stems to leech that little bit extra onto the soil when they are developing any pods.
The day that Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck ...

... is the day they make vacuum cleaners

Is there any specific brand of fertiliser I can use or just a general one?

My runners are grown in pots and therefore have to be fed. This time in the season I use a high nitrogen feed to promote green growth, the one I use is Miracle Grow.

Later when the beans come I switch to high potash i.e. tomato feed.

Great thanks. Could I just mulch around the base of the plant with compost too?
