I have been mooching around the site for a while, thought I best do an intro....

Im stefan, 30 years old from Essex and hope to have my first allotment by the end of the month. I'm a keen gardener and have wanted an allotment since I was little. And my wife prefers flowers in the garden so need another space for veggies.
I have a meeting with the allotment manager this Thursday to discuss/pick a plot (there is 25 available and I have only been on the waiting list for a month).

I turned vegetarian in November 2015 and three weeks ago turned vegan so im looking to produce some good wholesome crops to eat. Although my eight year old daughter already has plans to grow flowers on half of whatever I get. we'll see how long that idea last when she realises its more than just putting seed in the ground

Welcome to the vine, Stefan Good luck with getting your allotment which is very exciting.

I have an 8 year old daughter and she enjoys some of the more fun bits of gardening and sometimes she just likes digging in the mud. She will help me do watering and odd jobs and I think it is great for kids to grow up having a real understanding of how things grow and where food comes from - ie not just out of a packet!
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Hello Stefan, welcome to the vine!

It will be interesting to see how much of your diet you manage to produce yourself!
Perhaps you could interest your daughter in growing some edible flowers? Seed amaranth can add a hefty dose of protein to a vegan diet, is easy to grow and then self seeds for all eternity apparently Vegetable Seeds for Grains you can grow at home

Hello and welcome. Hope you and your daughter have fun. Maybe you could both grow courgettes and squash, her for the flowers and you for the fruit.
