  • Dehydrator recommendations, & can you use in garage?

    Hello

I'm considering the purchase a dehydrator. This to dry fruit and veg, make crackers/snacks etc on a small scale (for a family of 3).

Can anyone recommend a particular model?

and does anyone run one in the garage?

I'm torn between investing in something like an Excalibur or Stockli (maybe second hand), or going for something cheaper.

    Advice appreciated please.
    many thanks

still wishing I had never heard of them , the amount of work involved , and then people just eat them , one episode of the sopranos and another jar of dried apple rings gone, only advice is don't buy one especially not the biggest one you can find and don't make an offer for one, they might accept

I don't use mine loads but when I do it's great. Ours is in a spare bedroom but it could be used in a garage providing it's a clean environment, you wouldn't want dust or solvent/petrol fumes blowing over the food.

I bought a cheap and cheerful one years ago (https://www.westfalia.net/shops/hous...dehydrator.htm) which was on offer at the time. Used mainly in the conservatory (don't understand the concern over using one in a garage, what problems are you envisaging?). It's does everything fine, mainly used for mushrooms, tomatoes, courgettes, soft fruits and leathers. Can't see an reason to spend more.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Hi All, thank you for your comments, its certainly given me a lot to consider. I'm leaning towards an Excalibur if I can pick up a second hand one.

My reason for thinking of using the garage was purely that if we went for a larger model it would be more practical in the garage where we have plenty of space. My only concern was whether the deyhdrator would operate well in cooler temperatures.

Not In the "Excalibar" range! But as Mr bones says! Not used that often, but when it is the "Bee's Knee's"

6 Tier, compact, and tidy looking!

Suits my needs at nearly a quarter of the cost!
