  • Potting Jiffy Pellets

    Hello everyone.

I'm very new to gardening, but things I have planted so far seem to be doing what they should be (except for the carrots ) but I was after a bit of advice on the next step for my seedlings.

I have started some seeds indoors in jiffy pellets - Tomatoes, Yellow Tomatoes, Crystal Lemon Cucumbers, Cucamelons & Tomatillos and they've stared to grow nicely. I am planning on hardening them off the next few days before planting into polypots and putting into my plastic greenhouse, before planting into larger pots later on. I've been advised on 15 later pots, but if anyone suggests otherwise I'm open to help!

When I planted into the pellets I put 2 seeds per pellet, so my question is should I put the pellet (minus the wrapping) into the polyps, or should I try and separate them? I'm worried this could damage them, but not sure if having 2 per pot is a good idea?

FYI - I'm in the West of Scotland, and have raised beds and a small plastic Greenhouse for my allotment are at home.

    Thanks in advance.

You can plant the whole thing, thin them to one seed per pellet with the cucumbers maybe you could separate the tomatoes carefully, depends how much space is between the seeds & how the seedlings are, their roots get tangled into each other, sometimes it's best to thin to one seedling, incase both seedlings get damaged. They can't stay together in one pot, neither will have the proper root space needed. You don't need to pot on 15 times? Just two or three times should be good.

JJ I think that may be a typo and it should read 15ltrs

Oops yes, that was meant to be 15 litre pots.

If I had to plant them on 15 times I'm not sure I'd bother!
