    Pea netting nearly the end of me

    Hey folks

    Just wanted to share my experience of the last two hours. Littlun went off to bed early so i thought i would get my bean supports up. Oh my god there should be a mental health warning on pea netting. Its like unravelling christmas lights x a billion. Canes were up, tied, then tried to put a top cane on, having threaded two lots of netting on it (which was fun) Realised i couldnt reach over canes to put the back net over them. Canes came back down, end ones put back up then realised i had to untie middle ones to slot the back in. Nearly done then realised i had only gone 4' when i should have gone 5. Pea netting now not quite big enough. ARGH!

    This probably doesnt make any sense, but i think you may have the correct general impression of my state of mind about that blinkin frame!

    Rant over. Feel better already

      It does look a bit ropey but i am extremely pleased with it (too dark by the time i finished else i would have posted a pic fpr you pros to laugh at) just need these beans to grow now. They have actually started to poke through today so i thought i had better get on with it!

        Haha! Sorry but it does make me feel better when I read of others tribulations!

        I haven't even thought about how I am going support my peas and tall beans, when they grow I will fashion together some sort of bamboo wigwam

            Glad it's not just me who is rubbish at putting things together ... I feel your pain brumbird!!!

              I hate that pea netting stuff. At the moment, I've got my eye on a roll of fine meshed fencing a bit like chicken wire in Mr Snoop's pile of stuff...

                I have very open weave netting from the pound shop which cost me ............ £1

                I then cable tie it to some plastic and steel garden stakes I bought from B&Q which gives a very stable upright netting for the middle of the row and along its full length for the peas to climb. Works a treat and simple to pack away when finished with and it does roll up for storage.
                The day that Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck ...

                    That top one is a sycamore twig btw, its not all straight like the bamboo but i kinda like it - looks like a smile

                      I like the quirky top pole....makes it yours!

                      I don't want to add to your pain here brumbird but need to point out one tiny thing...
                      Baggy nets catch birds so yes, add whatever crosspoles you need to keep it taught and possibly some ribbons here and there to warn the birds.

                      Some folk will tell you that nets don't catch birdies up against a fence (since they can see they can't fly through) but baby birds are stoopid and we've caught them at this time of year in my back garden,
                      My daughter got to gently free it and held a baby robin in her hand which was a bit magical but I shudder to think how we'd have felt if we'd not seen it till it was too late

                        Thanks for this - i will tie up the slack and will hang some cds from the top pole as ive heard the reflected light when they move is a good deterrent.
