  • Why are all flowers that are good for the veg garden 'hot' colours?

I really don't like hot coloured flowers, my favourite colour is blue so I love the cooler blue & purple flowers.

Is there a reason that all veg friendly flowers tend to be yellows, oranges, reds e.g marigolds and nasturtiums?

Despite my prejudice I am going to plant some of these near my raised beds (out of sight lol) along with some sweet peas.

    yellow attracts bugs.....pollinators and predators.

But borage is very good for strawberries, all the flowering herbs attract bees as does lavender and comfrey is good for everything.

So, to your question "why are all the flowers good for veg gardens hot colours"
    the answer is, They're not.

Yes, sorry I should have been more specific, what I should have asked is why are hot coloured flowers good for attracting predators!

Which you have answered, thank you!

Not all nasturtiums and marigolds are orange - some are cream! Poached Egg plant is white, and there are lots of blue flowers like cornflower, cerinthe, nigella, phacelia and Muddled's borage that are bee friendly
This may be an answer to your first post and not the second one!

I seem to vaguely remember watching something where they talked about different insects only seeing certain colours. As for nasturiums the flowers are irrelevant it is there leaves (of green leaf not variegated) that taste cabbagey to cabbage whites that taste with their feet

Thats about it on my insect knowledge

It's bad enough when folk try free samples with their hands and, having worked in food shops so done Hygiene Courses, I'll always wonder if they've washed their hands properly after going to the loo

Can you imagine folk trying free samples with verruca-infected feet!!!!!!
