  • What to feed onions and shallots.

I am doing shallots this year and not onions, as mentioned in a previous post.
I worked some 2 year old horse muck in before planting.
They are about 1 inch high now.
Should I feed them, grow more, tomato feed or what or none ??

    Thanks
    Jimmy

I scatter chicken manure pellets around mine, which seem to do the job.

I've never fed Onions, unless you call a mulch of grass clippings feed.

I didn't feed mine last year and they were very successful. Just had in well rotted manure in before planting as you did.

I've fed mine some seaweed extract because I read this the other day...

I give mine mostly P and K once they're in the ground. Hardwood ash is good too.

I fed mine "Nettle Tea" (Nitrigen fixed) Last year, not in copious amounts, but it "Did the trick"

Normally I plant mine in well manured soil and don't feed them, but last year I gave them a feed of fish blood and bone around May as well and they were better than ever (but I was also more meticulous with my weeding) Not sure what was the deciding factor.

                  OK thanks for the advise.
I have some Fish Blood and Bone in the shed.
Will apply some when they get a bit bigger.
                  Thanks
