The plant in the ground is not a gooseberry - probably a blackcurrant. Rub the leaves - do they smell of blackcurrants?
The plant n the pot is probably a gooseberry as it looks thorny. Could be a Worcesterberry though - but I doubt it if you bought it in the grocers!

I agree with VC - definitely looks like a Gooseberry.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
        Pumpkin pi.

Lol, the one in the pot. I immediately thought the other one was a currant of some sort, though my immediate feeling was Redcurrant - for no other reason than the fact that I'd been mulching round my Redcurrants earlier

i think blackcurrant as you can see purplish buds near the top
Red and white currants have little green flowers in hanging clusters like bunches of grapes..........and they don't smell of blackcurrants

True VC - I'm just Redcurrant obsessed at the moment and out of practice in the garden

Yes thanks. It's a much slower recovery than I would have hoped for and the Malaria bout hasn't helped, but I'm getting there.
I've had to accept that I won't be able to do as much this year, but hey there's always next year
