I'm buying 680 begonia plugs for less than under �30! If I spent �20 on bedding plants I'd expect them to be good quality.

What size are your plants? Where will you sell them?
As BB says, you should know what the going rate is.

I would pay 20 for 30 assorted plants that are ready to grow in the ground, we charge 7.99 for 6 fox gloves so..
Id just be selling them over fb, taking a pic of what is there and putting a price to it. What do you recon?

I would not call foxglove a bedding plant

bedding I would expect to see the likes of petunia, lobilia, stocks, etc in which case it would be a large number of plants for �20

Sorry that was a bad example, we keep them in the herbaceous bit but was the only thing that came to mind.

We do 6 small violas for 3.49 they are in the little trays.

You can't compare GC prices with what you could sell them for. GC are expensive. People expect a bargain if you're selling privately. Without knowing what plants you have and the size and quality, its hard to even guess a price.
Try it and see!

If you have the likes of B4Q or H0mb4se locally, I think you will be beaten off by the competition, You can pick up a 40 pack for around 5 squid.

I don't know face ache but from car boots and driveways I would expect a 6 cell tray to be a pound, two at a push if they were full and in flower. For spare veg plants then 50p a time with a discount on more. I have never really come across people buying in bulk (outside of gc)

I sell at my gate. A 4 or 5 cell stip ( big cell/ module tray cut into 4 or 5 cell strips, depending on tray size) I sell for a �1. Most of the time there are 2 plants to a cell, so 10 plants for �1. Ready hardened off and big enough to plant straight away. Only the healthiest plants are sold. Things in pots 9cm (I think). Range from 50p-75p depending what it is. Again most the time there is more than one plant, hardened off & ready to plant.
I even suply info sheets (very small ones) on the more unusual verities, growing, culinarily or both.

I wish we had stalk at car boots roind here that sold plants Id be there every week!
I think sunderland is to city for people who like plants and gardenin... but its changing x

Yep, same as around here then Sp, I got 20 broad beans a couple of weeks back for �2 from a driveway stall, a mate in Kent gets his runners the same way & price but 'fell lucky' when he got 10 cells of sweet peas for �2 & at potting on found he had 28 instead of the 20 it said on the card.

I think garden centres invest heavily into store displays and design, cafes and brands to sell their goods.
They cater to a large demographic of people who are paying not only for the plant but for a pleasant afternoon, wandering around in elegant surroundings.
The plant is almost a by product of the leisure experience and is priced accordingly.

A stall at the gate is a quaint tradition.
It feels wholesome and pleasing and one expects that a chubby old gardener uses the pennies for birdfood or somesuch!
I love buying from stalls at the gate with an honesty box, the pleasure is as much nostalgia as thrift and I will often put in more than the asking price (which is only a fraction of the GC price)

Selling on face ache, however, offers none of these charms.
Its a straight up transaction without romance or leisure.
I'm not sure how you could arrange payment and collection/delivery without risk.

At least at a boot fair you would catch impulse buyers, attract withscent, could dress some up with pots and bows for gifts.
Then you would have the very real benefit of a set cost (petrol, rent etc) so you could work out a price based upon;
it costs me this much to get
and this much for seed, composts and pots,
So I need to make x amount before I'm in profit.
x divided by the amount to sell = y plus a bit extra for me!
