  • Tomato growing medium

I have some grow bags to put my tomatoes in and need to decide what to fill them with.

Any thoughts on this or please suggest an alternative
    Miracle-Gro Potting Mix Compost - 40L

    thanks for your advice

I don't think it matters too much what compost you use - you still have to feed them once the fruits set.

I use a mixture of Growbags (e.g. Verve £3.94 for 50L), garden compost and multi-purpose. I also grow them in the greenhouse borders and (blight resistant varieties only) outdoors at the allotment.

They all "work". Personally I wouldn't pay the extra for Miracle Grow as you need to balance the amount of Nitrogen and Potassium fertiliser, you don't want too much Nitrogen as the plants will just grow leaves and not set fruit.

Make sure you buy a decent tomato fertiliser but don't give them too much TLC.

I use the cheapest I can get and mix soil in with it 50/50, the soil holds the moisture and I will be using a comfort feed this year as I was quite happy with it last year when I used it for the first time
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
