    Tomato looking dodgy

    Hi all, these are my sils Tom's, hope the pics worked. They look as if they need feeding, whitening on the leaves, that was my first thought but.......
    It turns out that he has fed them and that apparently the feed was diluted in the bottle.
    Now I think that they may have been overfed, it's the first time I've seen this, all thoughts welcome.

    Hes also given me some leggy sunflowers to pot up, can i plant them deep or are they dead parrots.?

    Tomato blight ?? What ever it is it I would consider destroying the plant and starting again. There is still time to start again and get a crop

      My first thought is magnesium deficiency. Try a spray of Epsom salts.

        No, not blight but thanks for the thought .
        I have spare plants here for him just in case ( its his first time at growing ) but he wants to try and save them if possible ( hes already murdered a black ukraine )

          Is it not a bit early to be feeding, I don't feed until I see flowers, other wait till the trusses start to form.

            Yes could be Mal.
            I actually thought they had been repotted but didnt notice their still in the same pots so the compost could well be spent now.

              Could the leaves have got a bit wet & scorched by the sun? It looks like the new growth coming through is green & healthy? They might grow ok now that they've been fed if it's just the oldest leaves that are showing this problem.

                Yes Mal i agree about the feed but hes new to the game and got a bit carried away, also i think he may have given way too much but i cant say that for deffinate as i havent seen his tomato feed yet

                  Could be overfed/or lack of something but I can still see (I think) the seed leaves. Get him to pot on a little deeper and wait for a bit before doing anything else.

                    If that a plant label I can see I reckon their in urgent need of potting on, as deep as possible.

                    If he use's new MPC that will give a boost of everything they need over the short term.

                        The guy in question.

                        Hi guys, just want to say thanks to Jackarmy for posting this thread and trying to find help for me. When it comes to gardening and planting i am very clueless but hoping to learn alot in the next couple of weeks... back to the topic in question. I made the mistake of re-planting the tomatoe plants at the top of their new pots. After speaking with Jackarmy last night i only then learned that they need to be buried deeper, could that be the reason why the leaves are starting to loose their colour??? I have just noticed that another plant is starting to go the same way this would be my third plant that has this now. The tomatoe feed i bought is simply a pour to feed as thats what its states anyway.

                        If anyone has any further information about the above please reply.

                            (a) You shouldn't be feeding them at this stage if you using new compost.

                            (b) I see they are sat in saucers, this might be keeping the compost to wet which will affect the root system on young plants. Water your pots only when they need it by standing them in a saucer or similar so they can take up the water from below then let the excess drain.

                            (c) It's not to late to pot them deep. If you carefully take them out of the pot they are in you will find the excess compost will stay in the bottom of the pot. Knock most of this out leaving just a thin layer in the bottom of the pot, place plant back in pot and carefully top of with compost gently firming as you go.

                              Far too early for tomato blight.Give them a bit of shade, they may have got too much light. New groeth is looking healthy.
