    Jersey devil tomato

    Has anyone else any experience growing these?
    They seem floppy compared to other seedlings just wondering if it's normal or there's something wrong thanks

    I've never grown Jersey Devil (though was tempted to get some seeds a while back), however I do regularly grow a variety called Amish Paste.

    The foliage on Amish Paste is rather elongated, floppy and droopy, so it would be entirely possible for the Jersey Devil plants to be showing a similar trait.

      I've just gooooogle them because I didn't know anything about them. What I've discovered is there now on my growing list for next year thank you

        I'm hoping to grow them for the first time this year, I'm waiting for some seeds in the post.

        They'll be starting a bit later than I would have liked, but I'm hoping they will catch up.

          I've grown Opalka, which has the same shape fruit as JD and that one has floppy/wispy foliage as well

              I've got some jersey devil seeds sown, just waiting for them to pop up so will be able to confirm soon
              Shoot for the stars, reach the tree tops

                My Jersey Devil seeds were sown as soon as they arrived, and are now starting to pop up

                If they do well, I'll try and save some seeds for the VSP and/or one of the Seed Circles.

                  Seem to be doing ok

                  I have about a dozen decent sized young plants ready to pot on - I shall grow some in a greenhouse but want to also try them outside. My allotment is quite exposed - which has benefits (sunny) and disadvantages (strong winds) so not sure how successful I shall be.

                    update on jersey Devils

                    Thanks to blight I am reduced to 3 plants growing in a greenhouse. They are tall with floppy leaves (as a previous poster pointed out) so I have trimmed the leaves back altogether below the first truss and cut them back by half above. So far I have about half a dozen good sized fruit on each plant and about the same amount in early stages. Their unusual shape (like a longish pepper) is certainly a talking point with my fellow allotmenteers.

                      My 'Jersey Devils' are all healthy strong plants that are very productive

                      Unfortunately, they're not Jersey Devils. These things happen with seed swaps and shares. Been a bit of a mix up.

                      I've got plenty of medium sized red cherry tomatoes instead.

                        I'm growing red buffalo horn tomatoes....they look very similar. Taste delicious and I'm really impressed with the plant, others are looking pretty spent and these are still going strong, foliage on this plant is also droopy.

                          Scarlet, yes, I'd made a mental note of you and NG growing Buffalo Horn and I'd like to grow them myself.
