  • Morri $ons - No GYO magazine ?

As the thread title suggests - does the above supermarket not sell the magazine ?

I normally buy it when in town from Te $cos, but due to work I've not managed for the last couple of months.

Our local Morri $ons don't seem to stock it.

I've never managed to find it in a local supermarket - I did get it in W H Smith once, but had to trek up to the big one to find it. I subscribe now - much easier!!

I was going to subscribe - but waiting until we move to Ireland after the Summer.

Saying that, I wonder if they deliver to Ireland ?

Our Morries stocks it - and the May issue has just landed on my doormat (yesterday). Maybe they haven't reached the shops yet!

There's subscribers in Spain amongst others so I'm sure they do. Or you could just get a digital subscription which is what I have. You don't get seeds or free gifts but you also don't have to store a stack of magazines, you can download them to your tablet as soon as they are released and you can carry your entire magazine collection with you to browse at will.

Perhaps in the future, the publishers might even follow the example of another, ahem, grow your own type magazine and create a special interactive edition (videos etc) of the magazine for their digital subscribers (hint, hint)
Posted on an iPad so apologies for any randomly auto-corrected gobbledegook

I've not been able to get it for the last couple of months from our local store (all the other gardening mags are available).

Although the store is right next to our allotments - so that may be the reason.

All the pensioners must get in there first whilst I'm at work and buy it (as well as all the custard doughnuts).

Morries donuts are the best - I especially like the raspberry boxes of 5 when they're reduced to 9p

I buy it in Morries every month, not been in for a few days so not sure if the new one has arrived in store yet.

Oh dear, I hope not . I really hate this move to more stuff on video which means I have to sit through all the intro stuff I'm not interested in (rather than skim read to the bit I want) and then either find somewhere quiet to listen or suffer earphones (due the the shape of my ears I've never found any that are even slightly comfortable). It seems to be happening everywhere, I used to enjoy reading the news on the Internet at lunchtime but so many stories are now video I might as well find a TV. Much prefer the written word, I remember far more that I've made the effort to read than stuff I've watched.

Oh and am pretty sure our Morrisons stocks the mag.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Nah, it's fine. It's just the exact same as a print copy of the magazine but 'enhanced' so you can open extra features like galleries or videos etc. Everything in the print copy is there for you to read but there's additional content which you can ignore if you wish. I realise that not everybody likes to read on an iPad or tablet and would prefer a magazine but to my mind it makes a lot more sense - it's cheaper, you can carry all of your magazines around with you, you don't have to store a stack of magazines that you might never read again (I think VC has them all ), you get it as soon as it is released. Okay, you don't get free seeds but I'd prefer to save money and buy the seeds that I actually want.

I'm sure the publishers of this magazine are aware of what other publishers are up to so hopefully will follow suit.

Would these videos feature members of the forum doing "enhanced" things?
This digital business leaves me cold - I wouldn't know an Ipad from an eyepad, but a real paper magazine, that's summat special. If I'm honest with you, spam, there may be a gap in the middle of my collection. I'm not really an obsessive collector and hoarder

I'm with Spam on this - I think it would be a great idea.

To be able to expand on various items, with video content would add great value.

I realise that articles have to be constrained to enable them to fit into print, but sometimes there can be a degree of vagueness with some points - that a visual/video 'How to' option would be really beneficial.

I'm trying to type this without sounding like an advert for a rival magazine and getting assaulted with VC's pointy stick but GYO magazine might choose to create enhanced content (based on an entirely hypothetical rival magazine) which would mean that they upload two copies of the magazine - one print version which is a 100% facsimile of the print magazine that you can digitally flick through plus an interactive tablet edition. You can choose to download either or both. Hypothetically, this rival magazine might have additionally included a podcast version of the magazine to listen to starting from this month (although hypothetically I haven't tried it yet).

Edit: VC, you can read it on your computer, you don't have to use an iPad

Mods please edit if I've not been sufficiently diplomatic

I know that things are happening behind the scenes to make things easier for mobile thingy users, but I have absolutely no idea what or when. Maybe it is summat like you suggest?
Anyway, I'm sure they keep their eye on the competition
