  • What size greenhouse?

Hi all, we have been lucky enough to to secure a grant to totally regenerate our run down garden. The children and parents have been asked to design it but I need a bit of help with the basics. For example what size beds for8-11 yr olds? And how big a greenhouse do I need? If you run a gardening club please could you give me your top 10 tips for things that have worked for you.

    Many thanks!

Don't know how big the beds need to be but if you want them so they don't walk on them then make sure they are about 1.5 times the width of the average child's arm (assuming you can access from both sides). Re the greenhouse, as big as you can sensibly fit on the site (and can afford) as you can never have one too big but always have one too small

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

The main thing I learnt from primary school gardening was that the children like sowing and eating anything that grows, but not much in between......oh and that if you give them a hoe, they will hoe where you told them not to, and take the tops off the baby carrots *chuckle*

I do that too - I'm quite clumsy

The biggest greenhouse you can fit in. Think about it when its raining where will you want to be growing things? Also it means that more of your crops will be available during the school year. What's the point of things like sweetcorn that won't crop until August outside.

Get a large polytunnel and put vegetable beds inside.
