  • Some agapanthus questions please :)

Bagged a few agapanthus at a local nursery for dead cheap

I read these need confined roots to flower is this true?
If so should I put this in the ground in a container?

    Thanks guys

What varieties have you got? I only grow in pots as they don't like sitting in wet soil and I can store them undercover over the winter. Not all are hardy.

I had a few blue agapanthus a few years ago. I planted them in the ground and just left them there. They flowered regularly. I wasn't aware of any root restriction problems.

Mine are in large pots have been for the last 3 years. They flower more and more each year. They are against the house on a south facing wall an are doing great. I was certainly told the need to have their roots confined to flower well

I'm not sure confined is actually the best description, having seen the growing as very pretty weeds on Madeira, overcrowded might be better, because that is what they are & the more overcrowded the growing area (pot/flower bed/roadside verge/etc) the more profuse the flowers become.
