  • Hoe, hoe, hoe!

Well I can't believe I have only just discovered, after all my years of gardening and quite by accident, that the hoe is much more effective and by far easier to manipulate, if I use it like a spoon and not like a fork - quite a revelation for me! Why didn't any of you tell me?

Well, there are different kinds of hoes. Some work on the push, some work on the pull, some work in both directions and some use more of a downward chopping movement. And maybe we couldn't tell you because you never told us which kind you have

I bought my first hoe last year and love it, i have a big one and a little one now
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

I never used to get on with hoes until someone got me a push pull (squiggley head) wolf tool one and I wouldn't be with out it now. Glad you have found something that works for you (eventually)

I can't get rid of the image of Sheldon explaining when the expression "Ho" should be used now! Nothing to do with gardening obviously, but there is the usual tangent

I find that hoeing is an effort as I try to deal with the weeds but as soon as I stray near a much loved veg plant the hoe effectively decapitates it

                  Maybe I need to practice

Thanks Nicos! Now I'm spoilt for choice! The stirrup hoe looks good, but I wonder if it needs a lot of physical effort?

The best hoe is an organic mulch!

Swoe is probably the most user friendly Flo, it's the one that Mrs. BB goes straight to

Me too, I don't use mine as I'm too clumsy. Tend to hand weed or use a hand fork. I do own about half a dozen hoes of different types though

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've always hand weeded but with a claw or a fork Alison, but I can't get down with the kids like I used to! I'm off to look at hoes now.
