  • Cherry Tree Pruning

    Hi All,

I have a cherry tree about 5 years old. I want to cut the main tree branch going straight up (I cannot get the cherries of it anyway) so the tree can put more energy into the branches going off to the side. Also after the flowers have been pollinated and the fruit is growing I would be able to throw a net over the whole tree to keep the pigeons away from the fruit.

    Any advice please?

    Thanks for the help

Pictures would probably help but stick to planning now as you don't want to prune stone fruit trees during the winter as it'll encourage disease.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

when you net them use a fine net to stop insects and birds and it will make a big difference must be 90% light transmission type though, that way the fruit and the leaves don't get eaten and I have found that the tree is greener and more healthy when the net comes off, I take mine off after picking the fruit so it will last longer
