    2015 Seed circle crops

    Just curious who is growing what from those lovely seeds.

    I sowed lemondrop chilli seeds immediately. and want to grow the multi colored corn to save some seeds.

    Rest all are new to me crops mostly. so wonder anyone else join with me to grow all/some of the list.

      Somebody on the internet told me that corn easily suffers from root disturbance and therefore should not be sown more than 3 weeks before the last frost/planting out, to make sure that the roots haven't started to ball up the way they do in a small pot. I thought it was 3 weeks but a search on here and on A4A didn't turn up the original post.

      Speaking of corn, as I mentioned elsewhere, it needs a lot of individuals to protect against inbreeding; 200 I've been told. I never manage to grow that many plants, but if the circle as a whole grows 200 plants between us we could manage to maintain the requisite variety that way if we pool seeds?

        VC, just been googling maize seeds (multicoloured). read the fallowing note on similar maize:

        "The corn can be used for making popcorn and flour, but typically isn’t eaten straight from the cob. "


        am curious to know if its the same , as I like to eat them from cobs.

          I didn't grow them Elfeda, sorry. Nicos sent them to the VSP and there were so many I sent some to the Seed Circle.
          I don't grow sweetcorn!

                NG, it is so usual for us to boil or roast (put them on to direct flame of gas cooker )

                  ^^^It was the 'young ears' that got me. I know them as either mature/ripe or old/dried.

                    since they are not for eating as sweet corn/ corn on the cob types.... there is nothing like metured ears for them. but you can always pick some young ones to boil/roast. just like to check if it is the same with Nico's seeds!
