  • Scaffolding tubes and blue water pipe

    Hi all

I have been looking at people building polytunnels from scaffolding tubes and water pipe.

Anyone know where I can find the 5ft scaffolding tubes (legally!) as I keep looking and fleabay want over £100 for 12!!

give your local scaffolding firm a ring and ask - they often have damaged poles that, after cutting, will give you enough height to build a tunnel.

Did this cause any issues going over with the sheet?

          Thanks

I didn't use scaffolding poles but the plastic tube went inside the metal.
I'm no expert as I haven't a clue really but isn't the 63mm a bit inflexible to make hoops?
With luck, someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon!

I've found builders yards online for offcut/used 5ft scaffolding poles (with delivery) for about £7 each. The thick kind of water pipe is really expensive though.

Those are the exact instructions I'm intending to follow.

                    You need about 22m for a 15 x 10ft tunnel ... 25m rolls here
                    Blue MDPE 63mm x 25m Coil - www.drainageshop.co.uk

about £100 by the time you add VAT

You could ask on any building sites around.... Good luck

63mm blue is mains size so difficult to lay you hands on as waste.

If you have a water authority site near you it may be worth seeing if you can scrounge some off cuts. A donation the yard tea and biscuit fund might smooth the way.

Better still if you know some one who works for them.

^^^a kind gesture often leading to them thinking of you next time. A case of beer or two depending on what you got often works just as well
