  • I Want To Keep Both Hands On My Work!

As you know I recently bought a Scroll Saw and am not happy having to take one hand off the work while I turn the machine on & off. I have bought a foot switch & picked up a couple of easy to read diagrams off t'internet but can I get it to work...........not on your nelly. Potty has kindly offered to help so fingers crossed, laymans terms would be appreciated as I don't understand testers etc. I'll explain the wiring when I get a response.
    Thanks in advance.

Am I correct in thinking there is a power lead from the foot switch to the socket and also a power lead from the saw to the foot switch?

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

Well it can't be difficult he said more in hope than anything.

There can only be three wires live (brown) neutral (blue) and earth (green and yellow). We can forget the earth as far as on/off performance is concerned, it should have no effect what so ever.

There can really only be a couple of things wrong. A break in the neutral or live wires or the micro switch in the foot pedal is creamed.

Do you have any form of voltage tester?

Thanks for the responses so far, that looks good Jon if I can't get this to work.
Ok so I have the saw which has a plug fitted direct to it. I have a foot switch with 3 wires, White = Com Red = NO & Black = NC. I have a singe socket extension which I have tried wiring the switch so I can just plug the saw into the ext lead............No Joy, over to you guys.

Trying to get this clear in my head. So we start at the power source...........then foot switch..........then ext lead.............then saw......is that correct?

I was thinking that if BM was having difficulty then wiring must be involved .

BM have you got a pic of the wiring block in the foot switch? and indeed of the whole thing?

AS Potty has brought it down to basics, there should be a live neutral and earth. It's just a question of what is what unless of course there is a break in a wire somewhere or a blown or missing fuse of course.

Times like this it would be good to have the thing in fron of me and my baby brother(almosty 60) who is a sparkie on the other end of the phone.

                    Potty - Yes
Ext lead plugged in mains, foot switch incorporated into ext lead, then saw plugs in ext lead.

AP - I'll go get the switch & take some pics.

Cheers guys, talk amongst yourself for a tick.................

If you mean the switch on the side of the saw, yes I've tried various combinations between the saw switch & the foot switch.

My thought is you are maybe trying to over complicate this.

I think the switch on the saw should be permanently on and the footswich should be the sole on/off mechanism.

(does saw work if plugged in independently of the footswitch?)

What is the extension lead for? Is it simply length or do you not want to remove plug from saw?

trying to puzzle this out in my head

the switch SkeggiJ showed would follow the above principle
