  • Plum tree

I ordered a bare root plum tree in October for delivery in November, the suppliers have now moved the delivery date to mid January! Is this too late for planting? I thought late autumn or spring were the proper planting times.

    Nah Bill!

The RHS refer to best planting times of between October and April, so your well in the window!

Yeah. You can plant bareroot plants from October to April. However the best time within those months would usually be about now.

While the soil is still on the warm side the roots will have a few months to get going before they're called into action in the spring.

That will however depend on all the usual caveats.......don't plant if too wet, frozen, etc.

You can plant bare root any time while they're bare root . It's probably been delayed due to the mild autumn leading to late leaf fall which in turn delayed lifting

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
