  • True Potato Seed

Does anyone have any spare TPS seeds that I may have please? I am not fussed about variety but I had hoped to have a go next year but am flummoxed as to what the ruddy 'ell I done with my sole tiny lonesome seed pod Will happily send SAE

For TPS progress see this thread http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ing_87738.html

I've got some from a Golden Wonder plant you can have, NG, and a few from Fortyfold. Not sure what they are crossed with. An SAE is no good to me in Slovakia, but maybe I'll fancy something you have some day. Just PM me and I'll send them.

      Tps

Hi, I have just found this. I've got some TPS if you are still looking. Desiree, Rooster, Blue Belle, and some randoms I picked up at the allotments. I also have a couple of exotic varieties, Colegiala and Peruanita.

If anyone wanted to start from scratch, it might be worth looking on the UK Potato Database to check out which varieties produce berries reliably. The ones above have done well for me. Some don't even flower, and some don't set fruit.

It may be worth emailing me if you are interested, as I don't look at this thread every day.

I've got lots of photos, but can't see how to post them. Copy and paste doesn't work, so could someone guide me through it?

Hang on!!! are you telling me that you can grow potatoes from the little crab apple type fruit that sometimes appears after they flower and before the foliage dies?

Yep! They won't necessarily be the same kind of potato because insects will have cross-pollinated them, but yes absolutely. That's how new varieties are created - rather than from seed potatoes which is essentially a clone of the original plant.

You need to leave the little apples on as long as possible and then keep them till they go a bit brown & squishy before extracting and drying the seed, if I remember the internet article rightly.

I know!!! the more I learn the less I realise I appear to know....

I've just been cutting them off as I didn't want energy going into growing them but into the potatoes in the ground and I have not found reference to them in the loads of gardening books that I now have because everyone buys you them when you first get an allotment and its a brand new source of Birthday and Christmas prezzie ideas..

You watch now I'm interested I won't get them this year to play with LOL

This blogger has written many interesting posts about growing potatoes from seed, as well as many other subjects. It doesn't look like the blog has been updated recently, but there are many excellent posts to enjoy:
