    New allotment!

    Hi,
    We are Amy and Mike and are in our late 20s, and have just got an allotment!
    We are busy clearing the site at the moment, wondering if anyone has tips of us as we are new to this!!

    We have a shed and greenhouse that were already there, which is good!



    We are currently deciding whether to redo the raised beds that are there or not having raised beds!

    Any tips would be good,

      Plot looks to be in reasonable condition unlike many that are allocated. Do enjoy. If you can get the ground turned over before winter, it will be a dawdle come springtime

        Do you have everything within the fence - if so the beds seem rather oddly placed. If you want to get growing straight away then keep them. However if it was me I would go with blank canvas and start planting springtime.

        There are loads of ways to approach it. How much time to you have? What appeals to you? What fruit and veg do you like? Where in the world are you? Are you little and often or full guns blazin til you ache type people?The more information you give the more people can tailor make your answers oh and be honest with yourselves if no one else (most would want to spend days in their lotties but reality is often a few hours at most)

          Hi, welcome to the Vine A lot of knowledge peeps on this board so ask away
          Instead of chucking your raised beds could you lift them and move them somewhere else on the plot.
          Best thing is to sit down and draw a rough plan of what you want to grow and where you want to plant it.
          Still got until spring to make your mind up

            Having a greenhouse and a shed is a real bonus!
            I'd work with what you have this year. This time next year you'll have a better idea of what you'd like to grow and the best layout.
            If you want to grow onions and garlic, now is the time to buy some onions sets and garlic bulbs and prepare a bed ready for them. Overwintering broad beans and hardy peas can also be planted now.               We are 30, so not too far off your age and been growing for years now, such a wonderful healthy hobby/lifestyle to get into. This forum will provide you with so much help. No question is ever silly neither is the answer
