Celery sticks filled with peanut butter and banana - though that sounds pretty ordinary compared to the previous ones!

I do cashew butter and banana in ryvita - the celery idea sounds good though.

Mushy peas and mint sauce are a Nottingham staple nothing strange at all.

When I was in my late teens a can of Fray Bentos stewing steak with a fried egg on along with bread and butter was my favourite supper.

Love hot sausage and cheddar sandwiches.

But for weird eating habits I couldn't beat the field routine we used in the army. To explain I was in the Royal Armoured Corps doing reconnaissance work so it was rare to know when we would get to eat or sleep so we ate on the hoof as were.

We tied cans of compo rations to the vehicle exhaust manifold at the start of the day, after an hour or so these would be lovely and hot and would remain so till needed. Your pockets contained boiled sweets and Cadbury's chocolate also from the ration pack, these sustained you until till you had a couple of minutes.

At the appropriate time the skipper would call it. The skipper stayed on the radio to maintain communications but standing on his seat halfway out of the turret. The driver got the pots boiler (all ready bubbling away) and made very strong coffee, then stood in his hatch and turning to face the rear of the motor put 3 mugs of coffee on the top of the turret. Whilst this was going on the gunner had jumped on to the rear decks and retrieved the cans of hot food, these to were placed in a row on the top of the turret.

Every man carried a small tin opener and a large desert spoon (gobbling rod) in his top pocket. The tins were opened and starting with the driver we went along the line of tins taking a spoonful from each, then when the others had their share back to the start of the line and work your way along again.

Depending how the gunner had placed the cans you could go from a spoonful of hot custard to chicken supreme to plum duff to beef in gravy and back to custard all washed down with coffee you could stand your spoon in.

Carefully clean your gobbling rod, well we licked it clean, empty cans to the sludge bin and we were good to go, average time 3 minutes.

I can't think of anything that I would consider an odd combinations that I like. But I am another fan of mushy peas & mint sauce.

My favourite treat at Goose fair was a large portion of mushy peas, a dollop of mint sauce and whelks.

I too love a condensed milk sarny.

Also a boiled ham hock or trotters with half a bottle of malt vinegar, bread and butter.
