  • Growing Damsons In North East

Hi all, thinking of getting a damson tree but which is the best for North East uk, about 10 miles from coast but also need to factor in we are about 150m up on the side of a hill, completely exposed and gets very windy autumn / winter.

the damson should be absolutely fine there, if it is that exposed try to give it some shelter from the wind, even if its a old hedge, and stake them until established, I think it is our climate that gives them their lovely sharp taste...enjoy them as they seem to be tough old birds that produce whatever the weather.. I have a merryweather which seems to be ready to fruit next year, growing 3ft a year since being put in 2-3 yrs ago and if it grows here it will grow anywhere..
