  • Sweetcorn rust?

I checked out my sweetcorn crop this evening to notice that all of it is absolutely covered in what looks like rust. I forgot to take a picture, but the spots are covering most, if not all leaves. The variety is an F1 super sweet one called tasty gold.

I didn't think rust was a problem with sweetcorn, given we had a very wet 6 weeks it doesn't surprise me too much, but I'll certainly look to buy a rust resistant variety next year. The corn are at least two weeks off and fingers crossed they can develop properly.

Any one else had this problem?

I am of the opinion that the rust wont harm the crop, but i have been wrong before.

Its just that all the leaves look in a pretty bad state so I suspected it'd affect photosynthesis a lot.

Yes i agree but as they only need a couple of weeks to mature i would think you will get away with it, anyway there is nothing you can do now.

My broad beans seem to have been destroyed by rust in the space of a few days... I took all the pods off as the plants looked awful. It'll be broad beans in every meal for the next week for me!
