I noticed today that were loads of red fruit on my boysenberry which I swear weren't there last week.

They looked red so I tried to pick one but they were rock hard, it was like trying to squeeze a stone!

Does this mean they are unripe or does it mean something else?

Yes, unripe! They go a much darker colour when they ripen.
