No problem buying now that I can think of,tradition is to plant on the shortest day

I will be replanting mine in august.

So if you plant garlic in August when do you expect to harvest it?

I plant mine in November, find its too cold come the shortest day in December and August too early (and the bed would be full anyway )

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I planted mine in mid October and lifted them at the end of June and early July. I don't think there's any point in planting earlier although I've never tried it.

The Garlic Farm are going to be at Tatton Park Flower Show again this week and I'll be buying my seed garlic from them tomorrow, they give you a guide of planting times. The ones I usually buy are recommended to plant in October.

                    Be careful of planting early.
The garlic will send up a stem and grow, then the winter arrives. That makes this year 1,

After winter it gets warm and they grow on more and that makes (next) year year 2 to a garlic, and in year 2 they develop a flower and seed head.

Then people complain they have bolted, when the reality is they have not. They have just seen 2 years of growing (as far as they are concerned) and done what any self respecting garlic would and should do.

I tend to plant in October

I recomend getting some supermarket garlic, every clove i grew last year produced bulbs, from supposedly spanish grown garlic. much cheaper than seed garlic in garden centres

I save a couple of good bulbs from the previous crop and resow

Yes, me too Natalie - sounds like planting out anytime from August to December brings decent results!
