  • Blueberries not ripening

Good morning all, in need of some advice pls; I have 3 pots of wonderful blueberries but the berries have been on the plant for the past 2-3 weeks and haven't ripened yet. They are in semi shade and watered once-twice a week. What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

Hello Isabella, and welcome to the Vine. Mine have all ripened and been eaten but, although I don't know where you are, I guess I am much further south than you. If you can move them, try putting them in full sun for a couple of days. Once they start to turn, they go blue quite quickly.

Thank you! I'm in Kent but we live in a fairly shaded place, I have moved them into the sunniest area and will keep an eye on them

One of my plants gas fully ripened but the other two haven't yet, they're different varieties in an attempt to extend the season, they'll get there

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

My blueberries are usually ok to start picking mid to late July and last year I got 12 lbs (4 of my 5 plants are Patriot). This year I have only had 1.5 pounds and they werent ready to start picking till mid August. We did get huge rainstorms early in the year in Suffolk and lots of flowers were washed down the patio. They are in the sun and there are still several berries on the bushes but they seem to be taking ages to plump up even though they have had lots of watering, Tomorite and ericaceous Miracle Grow. Other gardening friends have commented on the lack of bees this year though I thought they were self pollinating - or am I being stupid here???

mine are only just starting to colour up and in an ideal spot but we only seem to get dark clouds each summer now, it was warmer in the first week of march than it was in july and it wasn't brilliant then but we did have some sun...
