  • Urgent grape vine help please

    Hi all

just severed my top cordon on my vine, its still attatched to the mother plant but only just.
Have tied it to the wire as best i could but am i wasting my time ?.

will it mend or should i give up on it ? and if i do, will another one grow?, ive already snapped off the growing shoot, my first attempt at grape vines .

A massive piece of advice for any other new vine growers, "get the wires done first" , that was my mistake , not doing so .

It sounds as though you are training your vine to very high standard.
I just let mine do it's own thing so I can't offer much help other than to tell you that if the stem that broke is green, the vine will be fine...if the stem was woody it could 'bleed' and you will need to find a way to seal it.

Vines grow new shoots for a pass time! If your repair doesn't work, in the spring let another shoot grow to replace the one lost. I've done this several times when one of the cordons has died over winter.
