  • Online competitions - now no opt-out of direct marketing options

It's great that for the last few weeks all we have to fill in is question, name and email address, but there is no on-screen option box to tick to opt out of marketing emails, unlike the paper edition.

It says by entering you agree to the terms and conditions, but if you read them it directs you to the Aceville Privacy Policy which states specifically:

"whenever you are asked to fill in a form on the website, look for the box that you can click to indicate that you do not want the information to be used by anybody for direct marketing purposes"

But there isn't a box! I'm concerned that GYO may inadvertently fall foul of the Data Protection Act - I'm sure I read somewhere recently that this is against the spirit (but not I think the letter of the law) and I don't want anyone to get into trouble for a simple omission!

I raised it as a general point in Admin/Tech section as I'm not sure who to contact directly

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have raised it with the relevant department and we have now amended the policy in accordance with the correct laws.
