    Moving blackcurrant bushes

    I have inherited a couple of blackcurrant bushes in the back garden of our new house. They have been very abundant so far and have already made some fantastic jam and have some sitting in vodka for creme de cassis in time for xmas.

    I am turning the front garden into the vegetable garden and turning the vast majority of the back garden into a family space. Due to their location I want to move the blackcurrant bushes to the front of the house. Does anyone have any advice as to how I might go about doing this?

    I am a complete beginner at all of this so simple explanations appreciated!

    In the winter or late autumn when dormant they should move with no problems better to take a big lump of soil and roots with them to reduce disturbance,

    But, at this time of year.... , especially with the very hot weather recently they will probably die if moved.

        Take some cuttings as an insurance policy before you move them.

          I thought creme de cassis was made with Gin, but I may be mistaken! Cheers, Tony.

            in the autumn trim about a foot off the top of each stem and shove into a greenhouse border or a large pot filled with soil and compost and put in a sheltered area until the end of spring when they should have roots and be carefully planted out, that's what I did and from one poundshop stem I now have 19 bushes and will be picking a bumper crop tomorrow...
