  • Carrot Fly (perhaps?) near seedlings - too late for nematodes?

There was a small rust coloured fly sitting on a kale plant near my carrot/parsnip seedlings this morning. I suspect it's a carrot Fly - if so it will be a bit annoying as the this is on a small raised bed which is covered with a fitted enviromesh cover which is only lifted when I water or weed.

My carrot and parsnip seedlings which were thinned only yesterday and have only just developed their first true leaves. So at the moment there isn't much for a maggot to burrow in to.

Is it too late to apply the nematode for carrot fly? it could be delivered in about 10 days.

Carrot flies are black, so the insect you saw probably wasn't one. There's a pic on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrot_fly

Can't help with nematode advice, I use netting.

I only weed my carrots while it rains.
      Sorry, I've never tried nematodes.
